Abstracts

The question of gay men and women is not about whether or not people approve homosexuality, but it is about the equality under the law and under human rights covenants. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) are more likely to experience intolerance, discrimination, harassment, and the threat of violence due to their sexual orientation, than those that identify themselves as heterosexual. The study observed socioeconomic, health and demographic characteristics of the sexual minorities, and specifically identified diversified forms of human rights violation against sexual minorities in Chennai city. Sixty LGBT were identified from Chennai city through snowball sampling technique. Most LGBT aren’t accepted into the family, denied properties, faced ill-treatment in educational institutions, meted out ill-treatment by hospital personnel, police, close friends and neighbours.
